AR EdTech web platform

Augmented Reality meets Education

ARBook is an augmented-reality book platform for education. I own its WordPress ecosystem: the marketing websites, the WooCommerce store and the integrations that keep them in sync with the ARBook platform.

WordPress, WooCommerce, PHP, Blade, Composer, ACF Pro, Elasticsearch, REST API, Docker, Git

About the project

Keeping three separate marketing websites costs more than it looks: every security update, design change or “add this banner everywhere” request becomes three tasks in three diverging codebases. Over time fonts, buttons and form logic drift apart, and the brand slowly splits into three slightly different versions of itself.

I am consolidating those sites into a single scalable platform with a modernized Blade + Composer codebase, synchronized with the ARBook platform through its REST API and searchable across the whole ecosystem with Elasticsearch — so the marketing team gets one consistent set of blocks and builds pages without pulling a developer in.

My role

Full-Stack WordPress Developer

After joining as the sole WordPress developer, I took full technical ownership: stabilizing production, refactoring legacy code, defining the architecture and coding standards for ACF Flexible Content, and onboarding new team members and outsourced developers — all within a Scrum framework.

  • Platform architecture
  • Sole developer / tech owner
  • API & search integrations
  • Legacy refactoring
  • Coding standards & onboarding

What I did

  • Unified platform

Architecture for consolidating three marketing sites into one scalable system.

  • Modern codebase

Blade templating and Composer-based dependency management for the theme.

  • ARBook REST API

Integration for seamless data synchronization with the ARBook platform.

  • Elasticsearch

High-performance search across the company’s web ecosystem.

  • Production stability

Refactored complex legacy code and resolved a critical volume of bugs.

  • Standards & onboarding

Coding standards for ACF Flexible Content; onboarding of in-house and outsourced developers.

Technical challenges & solutions

  • Three diverging codebases

Every change had to be made three times, and the sites slowly drifted apart in design and logic.

Designed a unified platform on a Blade + Composer codebase with a shared, standardized library of ACF Flexible Content blocks.

  • Legacy code and a critical bug backlog

Taking over as the sole developer meant inheriting complex legacy code and a large volume of production bugs.

Refactored the critical paths step by step and worked the bug backlog down until production was stable enough to build on again.

  • Data sync and search across the ecosystem

Content and product data live in the ARBook platform, yet had to be searchable and up to date on the websites.

Integrated the ARBook REST API for synchronization and implemented Elasticsearch for fast, relevant search.

Impact & outcomes

  • One codebase, not three

One update, one set of standards, one place to change things for every site.

  • Stable production

Legacy code refactored and the bug backlog cleared, so releases stopped being a gamble.

  • Marketing builds pages itself

A consistent block library lets the team assemble pages without a developer.

  • Faster onboarding

Documented standards make onboarding new and outsourced developers quick.

Project testimonial

We worked with Kateryna for almost a year. I can recommend her as a responsible and very motivated WP developer. She is attentive and proactive in her work. She builds a collaborative relationship with the team, even if she has several projects at the same time. Always open to help.
